What is a prosthesis?
A prosthesis can be considered a tool or instrument used to replace missing or amputated limbs. Although a prosthesis will not replace the full functionality of a limb - at Pivot Prosthetics and Orthotics - we use cutting edge technology and materials to design and create customized prosthetic limbs for each UNIQUE individual. What happens after amputation? When will I get a prosthesis?
After your amputation, the process to get your prosthesis can begin ………. Within 4-8 weeks after surgery, the wound has healed and any swelling has decreased to allow for your Pivot Prosthetics and Orthotics team to start measurements and fittings. This process can be easily attained with guided exercise and rehabilitation. During this stage, your medical team also will be concerned with maintaining proper shape of the residual limb, as well as increasing overall strength and function.
What is Phantom Pain?
Phantom pain sensations are described as perceptions that an individual experiences relating to a limb or an organ that is not physically part of the body. As many as 80% of amputees experience some kind of “phantom” sensation in their amputated limbs.
Is there treatment for Phantom Pain?
The most common approaches for treatment are medication, mirror treatment, stump stimulation and cognitive therapies.
How will the prosthesis stay on?
Depending on the level of your amputation, physical ability and functional needs, each prosthesis will be somewhat different. But, for most standard prostheses, they are comprised of conventional component parts attached to a socket that fits over your residual limb.

Do I need a referral before I schedule with Pivot?
Free gait evaluations or consultations can be performed without a referral. Any device you wish to have billed to your insurance requires a physician prescription.
Do you offer Mastectomy services?
Soon! Our mastectomy boutique will be coming in the near future. Medicare and private insurances require strict accreditation policies for this essential and sensitive service. Check back for updates.
